Becoming an International Trainer is managed similarly to a university degree program. An application timeline includes several elements: submitting a video of yourself teaching the strokes, letters of recommendation, and documentation of teaching experience. The training process takes about 2-2 1/2 years to complete and includes intensive group training, development of lesson plans, and supervised student teaching.

To become a trainer, you must be an active chapter member. What does this mean? The applicant should demonstrate active involvement in volunteer activities benefiting IAIM at the chapter or international level. This may include committee/subcommittee work, local/regional representatives, newsletter contributions, conference presentations, or grant writing, working with the chapter office as they can. The applicant must demonstrate completion of a college degree or license in a helping field (social work, education, massage therapy, psychology, etc.) or training and teaching experiences related to the IAIM work. The applicant must have completed a course in communication skills, counseling and/or group facilitation, and adult education courses.
