Our Board helps care for the mission today while imagining where Infant Massage USA can go next. Board members provide governance, strategic leadership, professional expertise, community connections, and support for the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization.
You do not need previous experience with infant massage to make a meaningful contribution to Infant Massage USA.
What matters is a willingness to bring your experience, curiosity, perspective, and commitment to the table.
What Does an IMUSA Board Member Do?
Serving on the Infant Massage USA Board is an opportunity to help guide the future of the organization while working alongside others who care deeply about infants, families, nurturing relationships, and the communities we serve.
Board members are expected to:
Support the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of Infant Massage USA.
Serve for a minimum two-year term.
Participate in approximately six Board meetings each year.
Attend at least four of the six scheduled Board meetings annually.
Review materials and prepare for Board discussions and decisions.
Participate in a committee, workgroup, leadership role, or special project.
Serve as an ambassador for Infant Massage USA.
Help strengthen relationships with partners, communities, supporters, and professional networks.
Support fundraising and organizational sustainability in ways appropriate to their skills and connections.
Fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities of nonprofit Board service.
Approach discussion and disagreement collaboratively and support decisions made by the Board.
Volunteer approximately five hours per month for Board and committee responsibilities.
Board members must maintain an active Infant Massage USA membership CEIM certification is not required.
The Application Process

Complete the 2027 Board of Directors application and tell us about your experience, skills, interests, community connections, and why you would like to serve Infant Massage USA. Previous nonprofit Board experience is helpful but is not required.
2. Nominating Committee Review
The IMUSA Nominating Committee will review applications and invite qualified applicants to participate in a conversation or interview. The goal is not only to learn about a candidate’s experience, but also to better understand the perspective, skills, connections, and ideas they could bring to the Board.
3. Candidates Presented to the Membership
Following the review and interview process, approved candidates will be presented individually to the Infant Massage USA membership. Candidate information will be shared with members prior to the General Assembly so members have an opportunity to learn more about each person seeking election to the Board.
4. Individual Membership Vote
The 2027 Board election will take place during Infant Massage USA’s virtual General Assembly in the first week of December 2026. Members will vote on each Board candidate individually, rather than voting on a slate of candidates. Candidates who receive the required membership approval will be elected to the Infant Massage USA Board of Directors and will begin their terms in January 2027.
