How Much & Who To Ask?

> Back to all Fundraising Blog posts

W are so glad to have you on our team to help support IMUSA! So let’s just be honest and say it’s uncomfortable in our society to discuss money… in any form including donating. It shouldn’t be this way of making a donation that makes a lasting impact in the local communities and world. Let’s break down the walls about asking for money.

If you don’t ask they can’t say yes.

Always start with a little research about who you are asking. Doing the research can make a difference in asking someone who can give $500 but instead you only asked for $25. These questions below will help guide you in how much to ask by gauging their level of interest. The more interest they have the more they are likely to give.

  • Is your contact someone who is presently invested in our cause?

If yes, then they already want to help!

  • Do they currently give to other organizations?

If yes, then they already have the mindset to give!

  • Are they financially able to make a donation?

If yes, then they are just waiting to be asked!

You have the power of creating nurturing touch and communication in your community

You may say I’ll just give them many options of how much to donate; but in reality people prefer you to give them an amount to reach your fundraising goal. Easy questions that are straight forward are:

  • "Honestly, I have NO idea how much to ask you for, but is a gift of $______ something you'd be able to consider?"

  • "Would you consider a gift of $____?"

Now you have done the research go ahead and ask, if you don’t ask they can’t say yes. You have the power of creating nurturing touch and communication in your community.  Be sure to check out our blog post Know Your Network and Importance of Storytelling to help guide you in creating your contact list and telling your impact story.
